Now in its fourth year, the Key Elementary School Band has quickly become one of DCPS’s standout music programs. Led by Mr. Na’Vaughn Martin, a proud graduate of the Duke Ellington School of the Arts andHoward University graduate, DCPS’s Teacher of the Month (September 2025), Bassoon Teaching Artist for the DC Youth Orchestra Program (DCYOP), and leader of his own band, the band brings together 56 talented 3rd, 4th and 5th graders, making it one of the largest elementary school band in the DCPS system!
The ensemble features a dynamic mix of woodwind, brass, and percussion instruments, showcasing the skill and dedication of our young musicians. Each year, the Key Penguin Band proudly represents the school in a number of different events across the city to showcase their hard work and musical talent, while celebrating the joy and power of music in our community.
